In 1916-1917 he took drawing lessons from В. Н. Перельмана in Tambov. He studied at the art Studio of Proletkult in Smolensk (1919-1920) Ф. В. Штраниха, GShM — VKhUTEMAS — Vhuteine in Moscow (1921-1928) В. А. Фаворского, П. Я. Павлинова, С. В. Герасимова, К. Н. Истомина. During the civil war (1920-1921) worked as a draftsman in the Office of communications of the red Army Western front, he taught drawing in secondary schools of Minsk.

In the period of study in VKhUTEMAS started to master the technique of woodcuts, but later the woodcut preferred drawing, watercolor and gouache. "Engraving directly preventing me to Express what I feel at the sight of the model", — the artist wrote.

From 1921 — participant of exhibitions (the First art exhibition section of the art Department FROM the Department of main political education in Minsk SSRB). A member and Exhibitor Association "4 искусства" (1926-1929). 1929 года — member of OST, in the exhibitions did not participate.

In 1930-1931 made creative trips to Jewish agricultural commune "Voyo Novo" in the Crimea, in 1935-1936 — in the Donbass. Taught in Vhuteine (1928-1930), Moscow textile Institute (1931-1932). In 1932-1944 worked as a stage designer in theatres of Moscow, Minsk, Kiev.
