MEDEM Pavel Romanovich (Mikhailovich (?))

There is not a lot of information about biography of the artist. Pavel Medem was born to a noble family, he was baron. Medem studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts (IAKh) in 1877–1885. During his studies he was awarded small silver medals in 1878, in 1881 and in 1885. In 1880 Medem finished course of sciences; in 1885 he was conferred title of class artist of the 3rd degree. He probably studied etching under the guidance of L. E. Dmitriev-Kavkazsky: D. A. Rovinsky noticed an etcher Pavel Mikhailovich Medem in the book Detailed Dictionary of Russian Etchers of the 16th — the 19th centuries (St. Petersburg, 1895).

Medem lived in St. Petersburg (Petrograd). He painted landscapes and still lifes in academic traditions. Pavel Medem was a member and participant of the exhibitions of the St. Petersburg (Petrograd) Society of Artists.
