born in the family house painter. Initial skills in painting and drawing was at the Art Studio in Simferopol. Studied in MUZHVZ - the second state of free art workshops in Moscow (1914-1919); recent years worked under the leadership of PV Kuznetsov, VE Tatlin, KS ; Malevich.

In late 1910-s he lived in Tashkent, where he organized an art school, since the early 1920's - in Moscow. He was engaged in painting and graphics, posters, caricatures. From 1922 - participant of exhibitions. Exhibitor first exhibition kinoplakata (1925) in Moscow.

In 1924, along with graduates of Higher Art A. Merkulov and NP Hodataevym founded at the State College of cinematography the country's first experimental animation studio. It was carried out shooting one of the first animated film "Interplanetary Revolution". Before World War II he worked as a director, artist and animated training films (most of them are not preserved). Has worked in various studios: "Mezhrabpom-Rus", "Gosvoenkino" (1928-1933). Developed and applied the "landscape method" watercolor movement phase. In 1934, away from the film, focusing on painting. Occasionally worked for the studios "Soyuzdetfilm" and "Lenkinohronika" (late 1930).

During the Great Patriotic War, was evacuated to Tashkent. In 1948 he returned to Moscow. Held solo exhibitions in Moscow (1971, 1972). In 1999 in the Exhibition Hall of the movie was a retrospective exhibition of the artist.

works are in several museum collections, among them - the State Russian Museum, Moscow Museum of Modern Art (on Petrovka), Museum of Art Karakalpakstan autonomous region in Nukus, Yaroslavl Art Museum, Tashkent State Art Museum and others.
