He continued his education at the Drawing school of the Society for the encouragement of artists in St. Petersburg (1913-1915) Н. К. Рериха, А. А. Рылова. In early 1910-х made a trip to Finland. Participated in the revolutionary events of 1905 and 1917. As a soldier, performed in Smolny portrait В. И. Ленина from nature (1917). Member of revolutionary Committee in Mariinsk, Tomsk province (1918).

Since 1925, has repeatedly traveled to the North, participated in voyages across the Arctic ocean, including in 1933 на the icebreaker "Sedov".
