he Studied at Penza theological school (1903-1905) and the Penza theological Seminary (1905-1906), where he received his primary art education under the guidance of Н. К. Грандковского. He continued his education at the Drawing school of the Society for the encouragement of artists in St. Petersburg (1913-1915) Н. К. Рериха, А. А. Рылова. In early 1910-х made a trip to Finland. Participated in the revolutionary events of 1905 and 1917. As a soldier, performed in Smolny portrait В. И. Ленина from nature (1917). Member of revolutionary Committee in Mariinsk, Tomsk province (1918).

he Lived in Tomsk (1919-1921), Moscow (1922). In 1919-1921 — head of the Department on Affairs of museums and protection of monuments of art and antiquities section FROM the division of the Tomsk Department of education. One of the organizers of the Art Department of the local Museum in Tomsk.

travel AHRR went to creative trips to Crimea, to the Caucasus, in Siberia. Since 1925, has repeatedly traveled to the North, participated in voyages across the Arctic ocean, including in 1933 на the icebreaker "Sedov". According to the results of the travel to the North published an article: "Three trips to the Arctic" (Creativity, 1934, No. 12).

Participated in exhibitions of group of artists of Tomsk in Tomsk (1922), exhibition of paintings by contemporary local and Moscow artists in Ryazan (1925); "Red Army in Soviet art" (1930), "Soviet Arctic in the works of artists В. П. Беляева, М. М. Берингова, А. А. Меркулова and others" (1934), "Soviet Arctic and the Soviet North in the fine arts" (1935) in Moscow; 2-й (1930) and 3-й (1931) mobile exhibitions of the RSFSR people's Commissariat; "Artists of the RSFSR for XV years" in Leningrad (1932) and Moscow (1933-1934); "XV years of the red army" in Kharkiv (1935); paintings of Moscow artists in Yalta (1936). Participant of several exhibitions of Soviet art abroad: traveling exhibition in Japan (1926-1927, Harbin — Tokyo — Aomori — Osaka — Nagoya), Art-кустарной exhibition of the USSR in the USA (1929, new-Йорк — Philadelphia — Boston — Detroit), Berlin, Stockholm (both — 1930), Konigsberg (1932). His personal exhibitions were held in Moscow (1932, together with В. В. Крайневым; 1934).

he was Buried at Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow.
