was born in the family of an agronomist, the son of Russified Germans. He had two younger sisters - Xenia (1894-1955) and Maria (1897-1942), which subsequently became painters.

In 1905-1907 he took private drawing lessons from Ivan Bilibin. In 1911, became friendly with MV Matyushin and E. Guro, was a frequent visitor at their apartment in a house on the sandy street. In 1913-1915 he studied the history department of St. Petersburg University. In 1915 he drafted for military service. In 1918, after demobilization, he entered the Petrograd State Free Art Studios, worked with Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, then at Matyushina. After learning in 1923 continued its work under the Matyushina in the Division of Organic Culture INKhuK, entered the set up of the group "Zorved. In 1920 took an active part in the exhibitions "workshop of spatial realism." I created non-figurative compositions, developed a special version of "biomorphic" abstraction, in which with the help of pulsating patches of color sought to reproduce the natural rhythm. Based his painting theory, connecting them with the laws of color and the physiology of the brain. Became acquainted with Malevich, NM Suyetin, I. Khardzhiev, IG Ehrenburg, maintained a constant correspondence with them.

In 1927 he moved to Moscow. In the late 1920's in the works Ender there has been a departure from abstraction toward a more traditional manner and figurative painting, has become a favorite genre of landscape. In 1930 a lot of work in the field of monumental art. Participated in the design of the pavilion of the USSR at the International Exhibition in Paris in 1937. In 1938-1939, together with E. Ya Astafieva and her sister, MV Ender designed the pavilion "Leningrad" on VSHV in Moscow.

During the Second World War, was evacuated to the Kuzbass. Returned to Moscow in 1944. He was one of the leaders of the Building Exhibition, as well as the main artist of the Soviet pavilion at the industrial exhibition in Budapest in 1949.

Khardzhiev left the memories of the artist (not published).

Ender works are in collections of many local museums, including the State Tretyakov Gallery. Much of the creative heritage of the artist and his archives are stored in the State Archive of Literature and Art.
