In 1850 was appointed chief architect at the Peterhof palace rule, and then began an active practice. From 1852 he served in the Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of State Property. In 1857 was elected professor of architecture. Since 1863 - the chief architect of the Imperial Theaters. From 1868 elected to the vowels of the City Council. From 1873 - head of the construction part of the town council. In 1886 was elected an honorary member of the St. Petersburg Society of Architects, in 1890-1893 - Chairman of the Society.
