From the family of district clerk. Studied at art-промышленной school in Narva (1907-1915), Art-промышленном Institute in Omsk (beginning 1920-х), the higher art school "Pallas" in Tartu (1924-1935) Н. Трийка and А. Г. Ваббе.

Lived in Tallinn, in the great Patriotic war he was evacuated to Yaroslavl. Was married to a famous Estonian artist, fellow student at the school "Pallas" Kareem Limanda (1906-1941); with him travelled to Italy and France (1937).

Worked in the techniques of etching (dry needle, aquatint), monotypes. Served portraits, genre scenes: "Mother and child", "portrait of the artist Э. Ивесаара" (both — 1937), "portrait of the poet Kersti Merilaas", "portrait of the writer AAD the Hint" (both — 1940), "Portrait of old Bolshevik Schiffer" (1950), "Sleeping child" (1955), "Portrait of a painter" (1958), "farm Foreman "Sage" Milam Sikka (1959), "the Girl from the farm" (1959). Was engaged in illustrating books, posters.

Participated in the activities of the Omsk group of futurists "Chervonnaya Troika" (1921-1922). Exhibited: "Great Patriotic war" (1942), the memory of the uprising of the Estonian people in "Yuriev night" 23 апреля 1343 года against the German knights (1943), works of painters of the Union republics, Autonomous republics and oblasts of the RSFSR (1944), all-Union art exhibition (1947), works of artists of the Lithuanian SSR, Latvian SSR, Estonian SSR (1954), Estonian art (1956) in Moscow; "the Great Patriotic war (25-й anniversary of the red army)" (1943) in Yaroslavl; Soviet graphic art in Vilnius, Riga, Kaliningrad, Kaunas (all — 1947); political posters Estonian artists for 1950-1952 годы" (1952) in Tallinn. The participant of the world exhibition in Brussels (1958). His personal exhibitions were held in Tallinn (1961, 1976-1977).

One of the organizers and first Secretary of the artists Union of the Soviet Estonia (1943). Laureate of the prize of Soviet Estonia 1-й degree (1947). Honored art worker (1951), people's artist of the Estonian SSR (from 1961).
