From a peasant family. In his youth he served as a clerk at forest fisheries in Vetluga. Formal artistic education is not received, studied drawing and engraving under the guidance of his cousin Л. Ф. Овсянникова.

he Studied in St. Petersburg: in the private school, after her — in the mental Institute (did not graduate). In parallel for a short time attended classes at the Drawing school of the Society for the encouragement of arts.

In 1913 he made his debut as an Illustrator in the magazine "New Satyricon". Collaborated in the journals "Apollo" and "Russian icon". Placed in theatre programmes caricatures of artists.

In those same years, was fond of folk art; produced sketches for handicraft toys (ladies, Cossacks, generals, horses), and with the help Л. Ф. Овсянникова shown at the exhibitions of the Association "Independent" in Paris (1910-1913).

In 1913 from-за serious illness and doctor's orders was forced to leave Petersburg, some time lived in Moscow and in Crimea, then moved to Pyatigorsk. Served as a Telegraph station. Became friendly with the artist П. А. Алякринским. After the October revolution he headed the Department of steklografom in "Windows Karosta".

In 1922 he moved to Moscow. In 1923 he participated in the polar expedition on the coast of the Arctic ocean and the New Earth. In the first half of 1930-х was in charge of the children's drawing club in the propaganda Department of the children's book Museum of national education of the RSFSR.

As an Illustrator he collaborated with the magazines "Krasnaya Niva", "Fun", "Murzilka". Designed books for publishers orders "GIESE", "Detgiz", "Young guard", "Peasant newspaper", "Pravda", "Soviet writer" and others.

Performed the design of many fairytale and poetry books for children: "Russian folk tales" (1935), "Geese-лебеди" (1937), "Tree" (1941), "New year" (1943), "Zimov'e beasts" (1944); separate editions of Russian folk tales: "chicken-ряба" (1936), "the Gingerbread man", "Fox sister and the wolf" (1937), "Repka" (1938), "the Princess-лягушка" (1944). Together with artist Е. М. Зонненштраль created a book "Printer" (1932).

In total he issued over 200 книг; many of them underwent numerous reprints during the life of the artist, and after his death.

From 1910 — participated in exhibitions. Exhibited: 1-й state free exhibition of works of art (1919), "Russian xylography for 10 лет. 1917-1927" (1927) in Petrograd — Leningrad; group United by art (OBIS, 1925), Association graphs (1926), Soviet color engraving (1937), the all-Union exhibition of children's literature and children's books illustrations (1938) in Moscow; the international exhibition "the Art book" in Leipzig (1927); Soviet graphic art in Helsinki, Tallinn, Stockholm, Gothenburg (1934), London (1938), new-Йорке (1940) and others.

Experimental methods of work of Kuznetsova in the engraving was dedicated to the exhibition "New ways of hand printing in the printing industry", which was organized by the art critic А. В. Бакушинским in the halls of the State Tretyakov gallery (1933).

a Memorial exhibition of works was held in Moscow (1949).

the artist devoted a monograph М. З. Холодовской: "Konstantin Kuznetsov" (М.-Л., 1950; in the series "Masters of Soviet art").
