From a family of painters and miniaturists; son Г. М. Баканова nephew И. М. Баканова. Studied at icon-painting workshop of the brothers at Belousovich И. И. Зубкова then — in Palekh artel of ancient painting (1928-1931) И. М. Баканова and Н. М. Зиновьева.

Lived in Palekh. Served as the paintings on papier-маше (caskets, boxes, plates) on the Soviet, folk, and literary themes: "Threshing" (1926), "Flowers" (1927), "Komsomol" (1929), "boatmen" (1931), "the Flight of the song in Lithuania" (1931) to the plot of the tragedy А. С. Пушкина "Boris Godunov", "the Soldier in the village" (1935), "the Scene at the fountain" (1939), "Death В. И. Чапаева" (1930-е) and others.

Together with Н. М. Зиновьевым completed wall painting in the room Gorky Leningrad Palace of pioneers them. А. А. Жданова (1936).

Many were engaged in administrative work. Member of the management Board and Deputy Chairman of the Artel of ancient painting (1931-1934), Chairman of the Association of artists of Palekh (1938-1941), Director of Palekh art-производственных workshops (1954-1971).

From 1932 — participated in exhibitions. Exhibited: "Art of Palekh" (1932), the exhibition of folk art in the halls of the state Tretyakov gallery (1937), "XX years of the red army and the Military-морского Navy" (1938) in Moscow; 2-й regional art exhibition "Ivanovo industrial oblast in art" (1935), "the Soviet theme in the art of Palekh" (1960) in Ivanovo.

Work is represented in several Museum collections, among them — Ivanovo regional art Museum, State Museum of Palekh art, and others.
