BYKOVSKY, Nikolai Mikhailovich
Painter, graphic artist
the Son of an architect, academician of the Imperial Academy of arts М. Д. Быковского the brother of architect and art historian К. М. Быковского. Studied in MUZHVZ (1850-1856, did not graduate) Е. Я. Васильева, М. И. Скотти. In 1856 went to Petersburg. In the same year for the IAH work — "portrait of an old man" and images of nature — awarded a small silver medal and received the title neklassnogo (free) artist portraiture and the right to attend classes at the Imperial Academy of arts. In 1856 on own funds moved to Rome, where he continued training under the guidance М. И. Скотти.
In 1860-х lived and worked in Italy and Dusseldorf. In 1864 performed in Dusseldorf painting "Marguerite in Church" on the plot of the poem И.-В. Гете "Faust" received the title of class artist of 3-й degree. In 1867, for the painting "Scene from the family life of a musician of the seventeenth century" was awarded the title of academician of historical painting.
he Lived in Moscow. Painted pictures on historical and genre subjects and portraits. Author paintings: "Widow", "the music Lesson", "Harmony" (1866), "In the country. Girl for cleaning berries" (1880). In 1870-е participated in painting the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.
1863 — participated in exhibitions. He showed his works at exhibitions in the halls of the Imperial Academy of arts (1863-1868, with interruptions), TPHV (1872-1874), Moscow society of art lovers (1880-1893, with breaks); Russian art-промышленной exhibition in Moscow (1882).
Work is represented in many Museum collections, among them — of the State Tretyakov gallery, State historical-художественный and literary Museum-заповедник "Abramtsevo".
