he was Educated in the Finnish cadet corps. Officer life-гвардии Izmailovsky regiment, Lieutenant-Colonel. Original art education in the drawing School of the Society of arts in Turku (1870-1873). Lived in St. Petersburg (Petrograd). Since the late 1890-х traveled through Europe (France, Germany) and North Africa (Tunisia, Algeria); has created an extensive series of travel sketches and watercolors. Performed battle and genre scenes, portraits, landscapes. The author works: "Corporal of leyb-гвардии Izmailovsky regiment" (1889), "the Trumpeter" (1889), "the Marching of recruits" (1893), "the Poet Maikov on the evening of the officers of the Izmailovsky regiment (Izmailovsky leisure)" (1894), "Reinforced reconnaissance of the Russian army to Bulgaria in 1877 году" (1895-1897), "Game of chess" (1903). The work was published in magazines "world illustration", "Niva", "Pictorial review", "Art and art industry", "modern times", "Sparks".

From 1889 — participated in exhibitions. Exhibited in the halls of the Imperial Academy of arts (1889, 1890, 1896, 1898, 1899, 1908), Moscow society of art lovers (1891), St-Петербургского (Petrograd) society of artists (1897-1917, with interruptions), the Society of Russian watercolorists (1899, 1903).

About 1918 emigrated; lived in Helsinki. Traveled through North Africa (Morocco). Participated in the exhibition artists of the Imperial Academy of arts in Petrograd in Paris (1921).

he was Buried in the cemetery of Hietaniemi.

Work is represented in several Museum collections, among them — of the State Russian Museum, Science-исследовательский Museum of the Russian Academy of arts, Military-исторический Museum of artillery, engineer and signal corps, the national Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan, Donetsk art Museum and others.
