PESKOV, Mikhail Ivanovich

Painter, graphic artist

From a military family. He served in the office of the Irkutsk provincial administration (1850-1855). He studied at the Imperial Academy of arts (1855-1863), in the class of historical painting in А. Т. Маркова. During the years of study was awarded to: small silver medals for the sketch from nature and the painting "the House in Kolomna (according to the poem А. С. Пушкина)" (both — 1859); a large silver medal for the painting "showarrival Ermak the ataman of the Volga robbers for a hike in Siberia" (1860); a small gold medal for the program "the Appeal of Minin in Nizhny Novgorod in 1611 году" (1861), gold medal "for the expression" a picture "of pugilism at Ioann Vasilievich Grozny" (1862).

In 1862 he received the program for a gold medal on the theme of the liberation of the serfs, but from-за disease stated about impossibility to execute the job and asked about the issue of the certificate on the title of the class artist. In 1863 he was awarded the title of class artist.

Lived in St. Petersburg, in 1863-1864 — in Crimea. Worked as a genre painter, history painter, portraitist; was engaged in lithography. Member of-учредитель St-Петербургской Artel of artists (1863). Enjoyed the patronage of В. В. Стасова.

participated in exhibitions in the halls of the Imperial Academy of arts (1859-1863).

Died of consumption.

Work is represented in various Museum collections, including in the Samara regional art Museum, Penza regional picture gallery. К. А. Савицкого, Irkutsk regional art Museum im. В. П. Сукачева and others.
