Vyacheslav Korenev studied in the Imperial Academy of Arts (IAKh) in St. Petersburg in 1889–1894. In 1890 he was awarded small silver medal. In 1893 he finished the course of sciences, and in 1894 he graduated from the Academy with the title of non-class (free) artist.

In 1890s Korenev became a member and participant of the exhibitions of the Society of South Russian Artists (till 1919).

In 1892 Korenev exposed his painting at the 20th exhibition of the Society of Travelling Art Exhibitions (TPKhV).

In 1900s Korenev taught in Odessa Art School.

In 1919 the artist emigrated and settled in France.

Vyacheslav Korenev worked as a seascape painter.
