From the large family of a teacher and writer А. И. Лебедева; he spent his childhood in Nizhny Novgorod. Studied in VKhUTEMAS @the mdas in Moscow Vhuteine (1921-1929) Н. В. Синезубова, Г. В. Федорова, Р. Р. Фалька.

Many traveled to the ancient Russian cities: repeatedly visited Zagorsk, Rostov Veliky, Yaroslavl, Suzdal, Pereslavl-Залесском, Vologda, Nizhny Novgorod, Kasimov, Uglich, Borisoglebsk. Created landscapes, genre scenes, works inspired by Russian folk tales, portraits, still lifes; the favorite techniques of the artist were painting with watercolors or gouache on a cursory first sketch in ink, tempera; studied etching. The author of graphic series "Nude" (1930-е), "Russian cities, monuments and landscapes" (1942-1968), "the seasons" (1962-1963), "Fabulous beasts in our garden. Bestiary" (1963) and others.

From 1927 worked as an artist book. Collaborated in the state publishing house, Detgiz, Goslitizdat, the publishers of "the Infidel", "Academia", "Art", "Children's world", "Soviet artist". Buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow. Memorial exhibitions were held in Moscow (1997) and Leningrad (2004).

Mavrina — one of the greatest masters of the Soviet graphic art. In his work relied on the study of traditions of old Russian and folk art, Russian lubok prints. For easel work is characterized by attention to the picture "a la prima", made directly from nature with keeping the fast pace inherent in the documentary outline, modernity, reporterlast, rhythm.
