From a noble family; the son of a naval officer. Graduated from the Kharkiv commercial College. In his youth he was very interested in natural Sciences and Ethnography; for task of the ethnographic Museum of Kharkiv participated in a scientific expedition to Asia. Then got into sculpture. Participant of the First world war. Was on the Romanian front; was wounded and gassed, for a long time was treated. During the revolution lost his family and the family estate.

In 1919, he emigrated to Turkey, where he met К. А. Терешковичем. Then moved to Greece. He studied at the sculpture Department of the Athens Academy of fine arts. Received financial support (and other Russians in Greece) Greek Queen Olga. He moved to Italy, then — to France. In 1928 he settled in Paris and is professionally engaged in sculpture.

Created image of Nudes, animal figures; turned to Russian themes. Worked mainly with wood, at least — with marble, ivory, copper. Cut cameos. Worked on the woodcut.

a member of the group "La Horde de Montparnasse (the Horde of Montparnasse"). Exhibited in the salons — Autumn, Independent (1925-1939, with interruptions), Verhnesvirsky. Held a personal exhibition in the gallery "P. Loujetzky" in the Hague (1933).

In 1936 he joined the Union of homecoming; participated in the decoration of the hall for one of his artistic evenings.

In 1935-1939, he lived in Dreux (near Paris); in 1939-1942 — in the town of Hossegor in the South-западе France (Landes); earned money by making wooden toys. Arrested in 1943 as a Russian; was for some time in the camps.

After his release he settled near By, in the house of the parents of the wife. Member of the society of friends of art; every two years, arranged personal exhibitions, participated in local group exhibitions and the Paris salons. In 1957, he was awarded the order of "Palmes Academiques" ("Academic palms") for the work presented in the "Salon series" in the Paris gallery "Bernheim-jeune".

Died of a heart attack. The artist's name named street in In.

Garin Retrospective exhibition was shown at gallery V (Valois) in Paris (1991).
