the Son of an architect А. К. Бруни the great-grandson of the painter Ф. А. Бруни. He graduated from a private school К. Мая in St. Petersburg (1875). He studied at the Imperial Academy of arts (1874-1885), first as volnoprihodyaschego pupil in the architectural class, c 1875 — constant in the class of historical painting. He was awarded small silver (1877, 1879; for drawing and sketch from nature) and large silver (1880, 1882, sketch and drawing from nature) medals. In 1884 for the program "the parable of the rich man and Lazarus" received a small gold medal, in 1884, for the painting "Ovchaya font (Siloam font)" — the title of class artist 1-й degree.

Lived in St.-Петербурге (Petrograd, Leningrad). Was engaged in monumental painting. Created icons for the Church of Resurrection (Savior-на-крови) in St. Petersburg (1896-1901), the Orthodox Church. Nicholas in Vienna (together with Н. Н. Харламовым), temple-памятника St. Alexander Nevsky in Sofia. Performed the designs of stained glass Windows for the Church. Alexander Nevsky, with 2-м cadet corps in St Petersburg (1899), for a Grand-Ducal tomb of the Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg (1905, not preserved). In 1906 "for fame in the artistic field" was awarded the title of academician. Has created a number of genre compositions: "Svecanosti (In the monastery)" (1891). The author of portraits: С. Н. Тютчева, В. П. Постникова, К. В. Осипова, П. Я. Чистякова, М. М. Орлова, М. И. Калинина.

Exhibited in the halls of the Imperial Academy of arts (1887, 1888, 1889, 1891, 1896, 1904), all-Russian industrial and art exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896), society of artists of historical painting in Moscow (1897).

he Taught at the Central school of technical drawing of Baron А. Л. Штиглица in St. Petersburg (1890-1892, 1905-1917), the Higher art school of painting, sculpture and architecture under the Imperial Academy of arts (1909-1918, Professor of architectural Department; in 1912-1917 — head of the mosaic Department of the Imperial Academy of arts), Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (1920-е).

he was Buried at the Smolensk cemetery in St.-Петербурге.

Work is represented in several Museum collections, among them — of the State Russian Museum, Science-исследовательский Museum of the Russian Academy of arts, State Tretyakov gallery, Omsk regional Museum of fine arts. М. А. Врубеля and others.
