Soldier Son. Until 17 years as a surveyor apprentice in Yekaterinburg. In 1779, defined in IAH, where he studied engraving on copper in SF Ivanova. In 1782, received a small silver medal for drawing from life, in 1785 - a gold medal for engraving "Mary Magdalene" from the original A. van der Werf. In the same year in connection with the departure Bersenyev Ivanov was responsible for overseeing the class Engraving IAH.

At the end of 1785 "in the argument other than his art, and good conduct" appointed retired and sent to the Academy of Excellence in Paris, from 1788 worked under the guidance SH.-K. Berwick. He died of tuberculosis.

Bersenyev - one of the largest Russian engravers of the Classical period, worked in the field of reproduction in the techniques of engraving and etching tool. Served portraits, creating compositions on biblical subjects. The artistic heritage of the wizard is extremely small and consists of 11 etchings, the best lists - portraits of Princess E. N. Orlova original by F. Rokotov, Baroness Stroganov NM from the original K .- L. Christinek, "Mary Magdalene" by the original A. van der Werf, "St. Jerome "by Domenichino's painting," St. Andrew "by painting AP Losenko (all - 1780-e).

Berseneva works are in several museum collections, including the State Russian Museum, Pushkin Museum im. Pushkin and others.
