From 1862 he studied at the MA Shishkov. He worked at the Directorate of Imperial Theaters in St. Petersburg, where in 1863 became assistant to a decorator, and since 1868, with brief interruptions until his death - the theater decorator. The Mariinsky Theater designed the individual acts of the ballets staged by Petipa: "The Adventures of Peleus" (music by L. Minkus and Delibes, 1876), "La Bayadere" (music by L. ; Minkus, 1877), "Esmeralda" (music by C. Puni, 1886), "Talisman" (music by Drigo, 1889), "Sleeping Beauty" (music by PI , Tchaikovsky, 1-e action, 1890), "Kalkabrino" (music by Minkus, 1891), as well as "Swan Lake" (music by Tchaikovsky, 1895) in the joint production of Petipa and L. Ivanov.

In 1881-1887 he lived in Moscow, working there with the private theaters. According to some reports, there designed the opera "Judith" AN Serov, "Ruslan and Ludmila, Glinka," Aida "by Giuseppe Verdi and others.
