From a noble family. He studied at the workshop Я. Ф. Ционглинского in St. Petersburg, a few months attended the Higher art school of painting, sculpture and architecture under the Imperial Academy of arts (1914).

as an artist and photographer participated in an ethnographic expedition of the Russian part of Central Asia (1915).

he Lived in Moscow (1917). Worked as a theatrical costume designer, drew pictures for Newspapers. Became interested in photography. Went to prison, where he contracted typhus. After his release he moved to the Crimea. Parents were shot.

In 1920 he moved to Constantinople. He lived successively in Zagreb, Vienna, Berlin. In 1923 he settled in Paris. Worked as a model, a loader. He painted in the impressionist spirit: landscapes, portraits, still lifes. In 1927 he settled in Montparnasse in 1930 снял small workshop, painted views from its Windows. Was friends with Ю. П. Анненковым, И. А. Пуни.

From 1952 he created cartoons for tapestries for the Beauvais manufactory.

Exhibited in the salons — Autumn (1929), the Tuileries (1939), Independent (1957), a famous and contemporary young artists (1968); active member of the salon d'automne (1962). Held a solo exhibition in the gallery "Crausen" in Copenhagen (1935), Paris galleries "A. Poyet" (1938), "Rotgé" (1943), "Pierre" (1949), "Bellechasse" (1957), "Le Point Cardinal" (1962), the gallery "Knoedler" in new-Йорке (1949), "O Hana" in London (1954), as well as in Stockholm and Oslo (1962). The participant of group exhibitions: "Le Temps present" in the gallery "Beaux-arts" (1936), organized by the editors of "Our Union" in the gallery "Zack" (1936), the Union of Soviet patriots in the gallery "Beaux-Arts" (1945) and the "France — USSR" XIV arrondissement of Paris (1945).
