BALGLEY Yakov (Jacob Balgley)

From the family of a Rabbi. He studied at the architectural Department of the Odessa drawing school.

From 1911 he lived in Paris. He studied architecture and philosophy. In 1920 he entered the School of decorative arts. He painted portraits, figures, Nudes, genre paintings of content, urban landscapes. In 1925 he created a series of etchings Études inachevées ("Incomplete teaching"). Exhibited in Autumn salon (early 1930-х). Held a personal exhibition in Galera "Barbacane" (1924). He was buried in the cemetery of Pere-Лашез.

a Memorial exhibition was held in Paris galleries Marcel Guiot (1939), Michel (1948), Marcel Bernheim (1955), Cimaise de Paris (1982); hall 1-го district of Paris (1974; "Balgley and overcome the Apocalypse"), the Jewish community center of art and culture (1983). The artist devoted a monograph Ж. Варно "Jacques Balgley" (Paris, 1982).
