he Studied at the Imperial Academy of arts, in the class of historical painting in Ф. А. Бруни. In 1856 he was awarded small silver medal for the painting "the Abduction of Proserpine by Pluto" in 1857 — a large silver medal for the painting "Judas throws the silver pieces", in 1859 — a small gold medal for the program "Jesus-отрок in the Church between Jewish teachers".

he Lived in Naples (1860), Paris (1861-1877), from 1877 — in St. Petersburg. In 1863, for the painting "Aria of Marcellus" was awarded the title of academician. Worked as a historical painter, a genre painter, he painted landscapes, scenes with naked female figures, heads, portraits in the spirit of "salon" academism; I worked in watercolor. The author of the paintings: "the Punishment of brünnhilde in 613 году" (1865), "the Meeting of Louis XI" (1869), "Abduction of Europe" (1870-е), "a Scene from Moliere's Comedy "Tartuffe"" (1876), "Peter the Great at the Sorbonne in front of the monument to cardinal Richelieu in 1717 году" (1881), "the Three great epochs of Russia", "Roman nights", "Venus and Cupid", "Carnival", "Failed trade", "Hunting" (all 1870-90-е); watercolors: "Hippolytus, son of Theseus," "Countrymen-приятели" and others.

Exhibited at academic exhibitions (1863-1889, with breaks) in St. Petersburg, Odessa, Kharkov, Kiev, Ekaterinburg, Kazan, exhibitions of the Paris salon (1860-70-е), at the world exhibition in Philadelphia (1876), national industrial-художественной exhibition in Moscow (1882), the all-Russia industrial and agricultural exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896), exhibitions of the St.-Петербургского society of artists (1897, 1899). He held his personal exhibition in St. Petersburg (1893).

Work is represented in several Museum collections, including at the State Hermitage Museum, State Russian Museum, the Pushkin Museum im. А. С. Пушкина and others.
