ZINOVIEV Mitrofan Ivanovich

Painter, watercolorist, draftsman

From the family of a provincial Secretary. He graduated from the gymnasium in Voronezh. By-видимому, in the late 1860-х — early 1870-х arrived in St. Petersburg; worked in artist-фотографом the Studio Bergamos. He studied at the Imperial Academy of arts (beginning 1870-х); in 1872 for painting was awarded two small silver medals. In the period of study was left to the sketches on the Volga and Ukraine.

Lived in St. Petersburg (up to 1880), then — in the village of Glinsk Poltava province. Worked as a genre painter, landscape painter. The author of the watercolors: "the return of the herd", the "neighbourhood of the city Lebedyna", "a Scene from little Russian life", "house", "Maid", "farm in the province of Poltava", "Autumn day", "On vacation" (all — 1890-е — 1900-е); paintings: "Sawyer (Farmer)" (1870-е), "Fishermen" (1877), "On the Volga" (1878), "In the Hayfield" (1881), "Working in the rain", "Christobal for yarn" (both — beginning of 1880-х), "the Settlement road", "Pigeon" (both — 1885).

Painted for the St. Petersburg magazine "the Bee" (1876-1877), "Niva" (1878-1887), "Pictorial review" (1883-1894), "Swallow". In 1880-х he drew illustrations to the works of Н. В. Гоголя "Sorochinskaya fair", "the eve of Ivan Kupala"; Г. Данилевского "Festal legend"; Т. Г. Шевченко Haydamaky; А. И. Островского "the Storm".

Exhibited at the exhibitions of the Society of Russian watercolorists in St. Petersburg (1893, 1894, 1895, 1908).

he Taught drawing to the children of the Princess М. Н. Щербатовой in the estate scherbatovy Thorns in the village not far from Sumy and the Sumy cadet corps (1897-1912).

Retrospective exhibition of his works took place in Kharkov (1997), Kiev (1998).

Work is represented in several Museum collections, including the State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov gallery, Kharkiv art Museum and others.
