In Mitava the advice of artist J. Walter. He studied at the Central school of technical drawing of Baron А. Л. Штиглица in St. Petersburg (1908-1915) К. А. Бренцена. Participant of First world and Civil wars.

he Lived in St. Petersburg (Petrograd, 1908), Riga (1921). Worked in the field of easel and applied graphics: was engaged in book and magazine illustration, bookplates, sketches of stained glass, fabrics, painting on porcelain. The author of easel works of art (ink, pen): "Three palms", "Rowers", "birds of the dunes", "city by the sea", "the new life", "Latvian arrows" (all — 1910-е), "Circus artists", "Venezia" (1933), "Jelgava", "Seaside" and others.

Illustrated and designed one of the first Soviet journals "Flame" (1918-1920). He drew illustrations to the books: "the Diamond of the East" (1919), "Song of the gardener" (1920) П. К. Бессалько, "the Creative theatre" П. М. Керженцева (1920), to the classic Indian book "Kama Sutra" Vatsyayana (1930) and others.

One of the organizers of the workshop for porcelain painting ""Baltars" ("the Art of Baltics"; 1924-1929). Created designs for stained glass Windows: "Vase", "Mother", "Mason", "Port worker", "Metalist", "Weaver" (all — 1920-30-е) and others.

In 1932-1934 was the head of the graphics office of the Riga city art Museum.

From 1913 — participated in exhibitions. A member of the "Green crow" (1927-1929), Society Riga graphs (1928-1932). He showed his works at exhibitions "the society of the independent" (1914), Latvian artists (1915), modern painting and drawing (1918) in St. Petersburg — Petrograd, "Artists of the RSFSR for XV years" (1933), modern Latvian art (1934) in Moscow, the international exhibitions in Paris (1925; gold medal), Oslo (1933), Brussels (1935), Warsaw (1936) and others. His personal exhibitions were held in Riga (1921, 1926, 1928), Jelgava (1928, 1938).

he Taught at the art Studio in Riga folk high school (1927-1934), the Latvian Academy of arts (1940-1941).

In 1944 emigrated to Germany, and in 1949 he moved to the United States.

Work is represented in several Museum collections, including the State Tretyakov gallery and others.
