From the family of a merchant. He spent his childhood in Vilnius. He received his General education at the Minsk school (1900-1903). He studied at the Higher art Institute of painting, sculpture and architecture (1904-1907) at the architectural Department, as well as at the law faculty of Moscow University, from which he graduated with the degree of doctor of law (1911).

Participated in exhibitions in St. Petersburg and Moscow, in particular in 11-й the exhibition of the Union of Russian artists (1913).

In early 1910-х mastered the technique of engraving in the private art studios of Paris and Munich. Traveled in Austria and Switzerland; at the beginning of the First world war remain in Switzerland permanently. Lived in Zurich, in 1929, had adopted Swiss citizenship. Worked as etcher, the xylographs, lithographer. Author of numerous landscapes, song: "Crowd" (1918), "From the life" (1925); series of etchings: "the Horrors of war" (1915), "Zurich" (1928), "the Delegates of the XVI Zionist Congress" (1929), "the Ruins"; cycle of lithographs: "Pictures for adults" (1929).
