Painter, draftsman, set designer

a Native of Germany; worked as a decorator in Riga (1852-1855), then for a short time in Tallinn. In 1856 he came to Russia at the invitation of the Directorate of the Imperial theatres. Decorator Moscow (1856-1862) and St. Petersburg (1860-1871) theaters.

Oakton Participated in the design of the ballet "Giselda, or Gypsies" (1854), "Naiad and fisherman" (1855) La Esmeralda (1866, 1872) "Italian night" (1857), Le Corsaire (1858, 1865, 1868) "a Shrewish wife" (1859), "La Sylphide" (1850-е, 1867), "Satanella, or Love and hell" (1860, 1870) "Faust" (1861, 1866, 1875), "Two days in Venice" (1862) for the Bolshoi theatre, "Skate-горбунок, or the King-девица" (1864), "King of Kandal" and the operas "a life for the Tsar" (1860), "Ruslan and Lyudmila" (1861) for the Mariinsky theatre.

In his works played a follower А. А. Роллера; theatrical work is characterized by showiness, splendor, idyllic image of the rural landscape, however some inconsistencies with the music and choreography (in the style of the artist was criticized В. В. Стасов).

in Addition the stage design was engaged in easel painting; painted landscapes with views of Germany, Switzerland, the environs of St Petersburg ("Forest Sangam near Frankfurt-на-Майне", "View in the Taunus mountains", "the Ruins of the fortress of Koenigsstein", "House in Pargolovo", "Russian village"). Exhibited at the exhibition of the Imperial Academy of arts (1867/1868).

Work is represented in several Museum collections, including the State Central theater Museum im. А. А. Бахрушина.
