the Elder brother of the artist С. М. Каманина. Worked in art studios in Nizhny Novgorod — Gorky (1930-е) Л. А. Хныгина, В. И. Чупрунова then — in the Moscow state art Institute (1945) П. П. Соколова-Скаля, Ф. П. Решетникова, В. Г. Цыплакова.

Lived in Gorky. In 1948-1960 he served as Chairman of the Board of Gorky Union of artists of the RSFSR. He painted mainly industrial and lyrical landscapes. Author of painting works: "the Release of brand new locomotive" (1934), "Late night" (1939), "the City of Gorky in February" (1946), "the construction of the vessels in the shop" (1949), "may winter" (1950), "On the construction of the Gorky hydroelectric power station" (1951), "March evening" (1952), "Spring awakening" (1954), "In the pit of Irkutsk hydroelectric power station" (1956), "Breath of heat" (1957), "the Mountains in Divnogorsk. Yenisei" (1960), "where the Volga and the Oka" (1961), "Volga" (1965), "Spring in our Sormovo" (1965), "Volga basin" (1968), "Frosty day" (1970), "the Nizhniy Novgorod olden time. From 1935 — participant of exhibitions (3-я Gorky regional art exhibition in Gorky). Exhibitor of many zonal (1939, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1961, 1967, 1969, 1971, 1980, 1981), Republican (1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1960, 1965, 1967, 1970) and the all-Union (1952, 1957, 1967, 1976, 1979) art exhibitions in Gorky (zonal) and Moscow (all-Union and Republican). His personal exhibitions were held in Moscow (1955, 1965, 1970), Gorky (1955, 1970, 1980, 1985), Kalinin (1959, 1965), Kostroma (1959), Yaroslavl (1965, 1970).

the Author of the album (together with А. В. Илевским) "Artists Gorky" (L., 1960).

For his activity was awarded the title of honored art worker of the RSFSR (1956), people's artist of the RSFSR (1976).

the Memorial exhibitions of the artist took place in Nizhny Novgorod (1993, 1995).

Work is represented in many Museum collections, among them — of the State Russian Museum, Nizhny Novgorod state art Museum, Ryazan regional art Museum, Yaroslavl art Museum and others.
