Biographical information about the artist scarce.

From 1834 he studied at the IAH in St. Petersburg as volnoprihodyaschego student. In 1839 he was awarded a small silver medal in the next year he graduated from the course, received the title neklassnogo (free) artist for two types of embankments of the Neva.

From 1844 to 1860 he lived and worked in Kiev. In 1846, together with Shevchenko created the album of the city. In 1854 he was recognized as "designated" in academics, in 1855 awarded the title of academician "perspective and landscape painting" for the painting "Interior of St. Sophia Cathedral in Kiev. Participated in academic exhibitions.

Sazhina works are in several museum collections, including the State Russian Museum.
