LEVITSKY Sofia (Sonia) Filippovna

Painter, graphic artist

sister of the writer and publicist Modest Levitsky. He spent his childhood in Kiev, studied painting and drawing under the guidance of SI Svyatoslavskaya. In 1905 settled in Paris, studied with Jean Marchand.

painted landscapes, portraits, genre paintings of content ( "Sawyers", "apple-picking") and works on mythological themes ( "Unicorn"). Many involved in graphics, especially woodcuts. Completed the illustrations for the book "Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka" Gogol, "The Chronicle of Joinville" and "Snake" P. Valéry, "Garden" R. Joffre and others. In his works went through a fascination with Cubism, primitive, relied on the traditions of Russian and Ukrainian folk art.

Since 1911 - participant of exhibitions. Exhibited their works in the Salon d'Automne, salons Independent and the Tuileries, participated in many group exhibitions. In 1924 it held a solo exhibition in Gallery B. Veil. The works of artist and appeared in exhibitions in the Soviet Union, in particular in the exhibitions of modern Ukrainian graphics (1932), the Association of Independent Ukrainian Artists (1933) in Lviv.

In 1938 in Paris, held memorial exhibitions Levitskaya.

works are represented in the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, Vienna's Albertina and others.
