he spent his Childhood in Vitebsk province, where the family moved during the First world war. Initial art education has received in the Studio of drawing and painting Л. Либерта and К. Миесниека in Riga (1927). He studied at the Latvian Academy of arts (1927-1933) in the workshop of landscape painting in В. Е. Пурвита, В. К. Тоне. In 1933 выполнил graduation picture — "View of Tukum".

Lived in Tukums. In 1937 has made a trip to Paris. Worked in the genre of cityscape, still life: "the Station" (1937), "Winter landscape", "View from the workshop" (both — 1946), "Harvesting the forest" (1948), "the Environs of Tukum" (1954), "flower garden" (1957), "Red poppies" (1959), "Early spring" (1960), "Spring" (1963).

Worked in the potteries Я. Криеса (1935-1944) and Tukums branch of the Art Fund of the Latvian SSR (1945-1968); executed paintings on ceramics, including — with works by European masters of the past — Т. Жерико, Э. Делакруа, Ж.-О. Домье.

From 1932 — participated in exhibitions. Member of the Riga group of artists "Mussala" (1933-1940). A member of the artists Union of the Latvian SSR (1945 - ; in 1952 was expelled for formalism, 1958 — restored). Participated in exhibitions of Latvian art organized by the Cultural Foundation (1935, 1936, 1937, 1938), fine art Zemgale (1937), 1-й the exhibition of fine arts of Latvssr (1941), Art exhibition dedicated to the 5th-летию Soviet Latvia (1945), Art exhibition dedicated to the Victory Day (1946), artists Latvssr (Republican; 1947, 1948, 1950, 1954, 1957, 1958, 1960, 1962, 1963) in Riga; all-Union art exhibitions (1946, 1947, 1957-1958, 1961), Art exhibition of Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian SSR (1960) in Moscow@art of the semicolon Latvssr in Tashkent (1962), and others. The participant of many exhibitions of Latvian art abroad: in Warsaw, Krakow, Helsinki, Tallinn, Tartu (all — 1936), Budapest, Prague, Kaunas (1937), Copenhagen (1938), Paris, London (1939).

his personal exhibitions were Held in Riga (1957, 1970, 1978, 1988), Tukums (1958, 1964, 1970, 1979, 1988), Jelgava, Liepaja (1964), Jurmala (1981, 1983, 1984). Honored art worker of the Latvian SSR (from 1981).

a Memorial exhibition was held in Tukums (2003), Riga (2008, dedicated to 100-летию birthday).

Work is represented in many Museum collections, among them — of the State Tretyakov gallery, the Latvian national art Museum in Riga, Tukums art Museum.
