From the Polish family. His early years spent in Russia. Studied at the gymnasium in Kiev, then — at the Odessa art school (1885-1888); was friendly with О. Э. Бразом and Д. О. Видгофом.

From 1889 he lived in Paris. He studied at the académie Р. Жюльена I Ж.-П. Лорана. He was married to artist Catherine Lushnikova (Lushnikov-Песке, 1901). In 1921 he received French citizenship.

From 1891 entered the circle of the staff of the journal La Revue Blanche, met with А. Тулуз-Лотреком and П. Синьяком members of the group "Nabi" — П. Серюзье, М. Дени, П. Боннаром. Was fascinated by pointillism. In 1902-1911 worked in the open air in Barbizon near Paris. Become friends with К. П. Кузнецовым.

Painted impressionistic landscapes of Brittany, South of France, still lifes, Nudes. Studied etching, lithography. In 1901, he held his personal exhibition in the premises of the periodical La Revue Blanche. Exhibited in the Autumn salon, salon Independent, the Tuileries, the National society of fine arts. Participated in various group exhibitions. The etchings presented in the pavilion "book Art" International exhibition of decorative arts in Paris (1925). His personal exhibitions were held in galleries Durand-Ruel (1923, 1940) and the Saint-Placide (1948). Participated in the salon d'automne (1940-1949), independents (1941-1944).

In 1934 he founded in the South of France in Collioure (pyrénées-Orientales region) art Museum. Taught in own Studio.

Retrospective exhibitions were held in Paris (1950, 1955, 1968, 1972), new-Йорке (1960), Kiev (2011).

Work is represented in several Museum collections, among them — the Louvre in Paris.
