In 1930 he completed graduate work — monument project М. В. Фрунзе. In 1930-1932 studied at the graduate Institute of proletarian fine arts (Leningrad Institute of painting, architecture and sculpture) А. Т. Матвеева.

she Lived in Moscow. Worked mainly in the field of easel sculpture; is particularly able artist women's and children's images. Executed the portraits: "В. И. Ленин-юноша" (1938), "Zina" (1939), "Н. А. Добролюбов" (1942), "the old Man" (1944), "А. П. Чехов" (1947), "А. С. Пушкин" (1957, 1960, 1964); song "Unconquered" (1943), "Morning" (1945), "Lying girl" (1947), "the Girl donning a wreath" (1949; the figure for the fountain), "Schoolgirls" (1950), "This should not be forgotten" (triptych, 1960), "My way" (1964). In 1958 for the song "Dream" was awarded the silver medal of the Ministry of culture of the USSR.

also Studied monumental and monumental-декоративной sculpture. Created a monument to the pilot В. С. Хользунову to Volgograd (1939-1940; together with М. Г. Белашовым), "Tribulation" (1945-1958; fragment of the song "Memory of victims of fascism"), a monument А. С. Пушкину in the Museum-заповеднике "Pushkin hills" of Pskov region (1957-1959); is the author of memorial plaques and tombstones: А. А. Яблочкиной, К. Ф. Юону, С. В. Герасимову, Н. К. Крупской.

From 1930 — participant of exhibitions. Exhibited: "XV years of the red army" (1933), aspiring young artists in Moscow (1934), Moscow sculptors (1937), "Young artists of the RSFSR" (1941), "the Great Patriotic war" (1943), all-Union art exhibitions (1945-1947, 1949, 1950, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1958, 1961, 1965), "50 лет the first Russian revolution" (1956), "socialist Moscow in works of Moscow artists" (1957), "Soviet Russia" (1960) in Moscow and others. His personal exhibitions were held in Moscow (1945, 1956, 1966).

he Taught at the Moscow Institute of applied and decorative art (1947-1952), the Moscow higher art and-промышленном College (1952-1971); Professor (from 1952). In 1957-1968 — Secretary, 1968 —, the Chairman of the Union of artists of the USSR. For his activity was awarded the title of honored artist of the RSFSR (1961), people's artist of the USSR (1963), member-корреспондента Academy of arts of the USSR (1967), awarded the order of Lenin (1966). Laureate of the State prize (1967).

Buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow.
