1929–2004
Graphic artist
In 1954 Eduard Gorokhovsky graduated from Odessa Construction Institute, the faculty of architecture. He worked as an architect.
I left architecture at that moment when I had understood that it had been impossible to be engaged in real architecture in our country. There were only typical projects, which we had to carry out in accordance with concrete places. And we could not do anything more, we were not allowed to create something different. In two years after graduation from the institute, I forgot what architecture was. I was engaged in book illustration, easel graphic art; I worked a lot in watercolor.
In 1974 I moved to Moscow, where my new life began, where I met a lot of interesting artists. I had to change my attitude to art. In Moscow my works were being exposed at exhibitions, at first at the so-called apartment exhibitions, because the art, which we were engaged in, was informal, unrecognized.
(Excerpt from an interview with E. Gorokhovsky, November 12, 2002)
