From the priest's family. Was a volunteer IAH — Higher art school of painting, sculpture and architecture under the Imperial Academy of arts (1886-1896) in the Studio И. Е. Репина. In 1894 was awarded two small incentive medals. In 1899, for the painting "waiting" received the title of artist.

Lived in St. Petersburg. He painted portraits, landscapes, genre scenes, paintings on historical subjects, he created the Church. Since the early 1900-х regularly made trips to the Russian North, sketched monuments of Church antiquity, collecting ethnographic materials. Participated in the creation of the Museum А. В. Суворова in St. Petersburg; repeatedly visited "Suvorov" in the province of Novgorod, created a series of works on themes of life of Suvorov in his estate in " end " - type. For the painting "Departure from the village of Suvorov in 1799" end "- type году" was awarded the order of St. Stanislaus 3-й degree (1903).
