was born in a peasant family-gardener. Systematic arts education is not received. In eight years he lived in Tiflis. Around 1883 the artist met GZ Bashindzhagyanom. In 1883-1884 he studied typography in the case of private printing Miller. At the end of 1880, together with the painter G. Zaziashvili opened a workshop for making signs.

In 1890-1894 he served on the railroad, then some time engaged in trade.

In 1900-1901 he worked in Tbilisi: signs, wrote, acted paintings and panels, painted the walls to order the owners of restaurants, dukhans, wine cellars, stalls. He traveled the cities of Georgia, in 1898 the family visited his sister in Mirzaani.

In 1912, his paintings began to popularize artists and to collect brothers K. M. and IM Zdaneviches, MV Le Dante. In early 1913 Ilya Zdanevich (under the pseudonym J. Veach) published in the newspaper "Transcaucasian it" the first article about him - "Artist-nugget».

In 1913 Pirosmani work exhibited at primitivists "Target". In 1915-1916 he visited the young Georgian artists - Z. Waliszewski, L. Gudiashvili, M. Chiaurelli, D. Kakabadse. In 1916 in Tiflis was the first personal exhibition. Educated in 1916 Georgian Art Society invited him to one of the first meetings and continue to provide them financial assistance.

Retrospective Exhibition Pirosmani repeatedly organized in Tiflis (Tbilisi) (1926, 1927, 1930, 1938, 1957, 1976, 1978), Moscow (1930, 1963, 1968, 1976, 1986), Leningrad (1930 , 1976), as well as in Kiev, Odessa, Kharkov (1931), Kutaisi (1962), Berlin (1970), Padua (1977) and other cities.

Creativity Pirosmani - original phenomenon in the early twentieth century painting, which exerted considerable influence on the further development of art, in particular, neo-primitivism, received a distribution from the 1910's. The distinctive features of his work is a simplified color, built on a combination of blue, yellow, black, brown, lapidary forms, conditional future considerations. In his paintings depicted the rural Valais, uncomplicated landscapes, animals, the life of Georgian villages: harvest, feast and revel, work in the fields and other domestic scenes.
