graduated from elementary school in Ekaterinoslavle. Art education in Vitebsk, under the leadership of M. Pena (early 1900), who in those years also engaged MZ Chagall, O. Zadkine, O. S. Meshchaninov. In 1903 visited Paris, then with his parents moved to the U.S. in 1913, became an American citizen.

lived in New York. After a short time studied at the National Academy of drawing in New York; independently engaged in painting, drawing, sculpture. Been influenced by Chagall. In the 1920's painting style was formed Kopman, which "criticism" is defined as "Jewish expressionism. He painted landscapes of the urban fringe figure in the interior. Many dealt graphics: illustrated books, drew cartoons, he worked in lithographs, etchings. Collaborated in the almanac Shriften (beginning 1920). Held solo exhibitions in New York galleries in the New Art Circle "(1929, 1931, 1936, 1937)," Erich-Newhouse (1935), "Hey-Hey-Si" (1941-1948), "Milcho" (1950 , 1953), "Holler" (1954, 1956), "Wald House" (1958, 1959, 1964) and others. He exhibited his works in Chicago, Washington and other U.S. cities. In 1945 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Academy of Philadelphia.
