BILINSKI Boris Konstantinovich

Painter, graphic artist, set designer, graphic designer

From a family of Polish aristocrats; the son of a General of the Russian army. He studied in the cadet corps in Odessa (1918). In 1920 emigrated; lived in Constantinople, in Berlin; in 1923 moved to Paris, and from 1939 he lived in Rome.

In the early 1920-х studied painting and drawing, and professors Meyer and Х. Балушека in Berlin; took classes in set design С. Ю. Судейкина and Б. Д. Григорьева in Paris. Studied directing. In Paris he became close with Л. С. Бакстом, С. М. Лиссимом, Л. В. Заком and other young Russian artists. Created Paris painting - "Scheherazade" (1934).

Worked in different theatres and companies in Berlin, Paris, London, new-Йорка, including in the Berlin theater-кабаре "Blue bird", "rainbow", Paris-L'arc en ciel, Paris Russian Opera, the Ballet troupe of theatre of Bronislava Nijinsky, Russian ballet Monte-Карло, La Scala. Worked with Н. Н. Евреиновым, Б. Ф. Нижинской, Б. Г. Романовым. Designed Opera-балетный a performance of "Ruslan and Ludmila" music М. И. Глинки (1930), ballets: "Spanish Caprice" to the music Н. А. Римского-Корсакова (1930), "Love-волшебница" M. de Falla (1931), "the Princess-лебедь" music Н. А. Римского-Корсакова (1932), "Etude" music И.-С. Баха (1934); the Opera "Tale about Tsar Saltan" Н. А. Римского-Корсакова (1932), "pelléas and mélisande" К. Дебюсси (1933).

Worked for the movie. Participated in the design of the films (costumes, sets): "a Blazing fire" И. Мозжухина (1923), "the lion moguls" И. Эпштейна (1924), Casanova (1927), "Scheherazade" (1928) А. А. Волкова, "Monte-Кристо" А. Фескура (1929), "metropolis" Ф. Ланга (1927), "Atlantis" Г. Пабста (1932), "Princess Tarakanov" Ф. Оцепа (1937), "Katya" М. Турнера (1938), "the Day begins" М. Карне, "Cordial consent" М. Л`He (both — 1939), "From Sarajevo to Mayerling" М. Оффюльса (1940) and others. Created movie times. He also published articles about art posters and kinokultura in the French Cinemagazine magazines, Cinema, L'art Cinematographique. In 1940-х worked as an artist at the Studio "TITANUS".

he Exhibited his works at the International exhibition art-декоративных arts (1925; gold medal), salon d'automne (1930, 1931), at the world exhibition (1937; gold medal) in Paris, the exhibition of Russian art in London (1935). Collaborated with С. М. Лиссимом and Г. К. Лукомским the exhibition in the Paris gallery Simonson (1927), personal exhibition in the gallery De France in Paris (1930), Bragaglia in Rome (1940).

In recent years worked on the problems of translating musical sound into color. Created a series of albums of "Music in colors", which translated into painting music К. Дебюсси, М. Равеля, Ф. Шопена, И.-С. Баха; had intended to shoot at the Studio У. Диснея cartoon movie of the same name (not implemented). Performed a series of watercolors "Apocalypse" (1940-е), on the Second world war.

Bilinski Retrospective exhibitions were held in new-Йорке (1975), Paris (1999).

Work is represented in many Museum and private collections.
