CHELTSOV Paul Savich

Painter, graphic artist

From the townspeople. Grew up in St.-петербургской Lutheran school St. Catherine. He studied at the Imperial Academy of arts in the class of historical painting in А. Г. Варнека then I К. П. Брюллова. In 1847 he received the title neklassnogo (free) artist painting historical and portrait. In January 1848, on his own petition dismissed "from St. Petersburg bourgeois society". In 1849 recognized as "designated" in academics, in 1851 for the painting "Boy-разносчик" awarded the title of academician.

Lived in St. Petersburg. He painted portraits, image for churches, song, genre content, served copies of paintings by old masters. Was engaged in the examination of works of art. From 1851 he taught drawing at the Lutheran school St. Anna.

In 1860-80-е worked mainly on orders: fulfilled the portrait of Alexander II to the Board of the Izhevsk arms factory (1862), portraits Sorokhtina (1892), Westberg (1879), И. И. Спитица. Created image for Pyatnitskaya Church in Vilna, the assumption Cathedral in Helsingfors, St. Nicholas Church in Sortavala, churches of St. John the theologian at the Theological Seminary, the Kazan mother of God at the House of charity for poor. С. П. Елисеева in St. Petersburg (1880-е), the icon for the main iconostasis of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow (1880). Painted ceiling and wall St.-Петербургской women's drawing school (1882-1883). He made three copies of paintings Б.-Э. Мурильо for the chapel of the Immaculate conception in Roman-католической theological Seminary (1879-1880).

Participated in academic exhibitions (from 1872), national industrial-художественной exhibition in Moscow (1882).

Works are in several Museum collections, including the State Tretyakov gallery.
