painter and graphic artist.

born in the family of the landowner. In 1870 alone the figure was engaged. In 1880-1885 he studied at the studio Partugalyana in Van. In the early 1890's for participation in the Armenian liberation movement, was sentenced by the Turkish Government to the death penalty and escaped through Persia to Russia.

In 1895-1897 he studied at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts at LE Dmitrieva-Caucasian. Went to the sketches in Estonia. After the arrest and detention (prison Revel, Tiflis and Erivan, 1897-1899) was sent to Persia, whence he emigrated to France.

settled in Paris in 1899-1904 attended the Academy R. Julien, where he studied under the direction of J.-P. Laurent and J.-J. Benjamin-Constant. Worked in Brittany, periodically visited Russia. Exhibited in the Salon d'Automne (1901).

In mid-1900's, lived in Erivan, worked on murals in the monastery of Echmiadzin. He taught at Nersisyanovskom and Ovanovskom schools in Tiflis. In 1908 he returned to Paris. In 1910 he settled in Constantinople. Many travel throughout Europe, Asia and Africa. In mid 1910-s, along with the artist S. Komitas traveled through the territory of Turkish Armenia, visited the Van. In 1913 he was awarded a gold medal at the International Art Exhibition in Munich for the painting "Narthex Sanahin monastery. In 1914 he took part in anti-Turkish uprising in Van.

In 1916 he became a founding member of Artists' Union of Armenians in Tiflis and its branch in Rostov-on-Don, has exhibited his works at exhibitions of the Union (1917, 1921). In 1919, held a solo exhibition in Paris.

From 1920 he lived in the United States. In 1928 at the invitation of the Soviet government returned to Armenia. He was a member of the Armenian branch AHRR. He participated in many group exhibitions, including "Fine Art of the Armenian SSR for 11 years" (1931), "Gallery of shock" (1932), in an exhibition devoted to the anniversary of the Red Army, XVII (1935) in Erivan, "exhibition of the best works of Soviet artists in Moscow (1941). Repeatedly committed Trips to Armenia. In 1935 he was awarded the title People's Artist of Armenian SSR.

Terlemezian - one of the largest Armenian artists. He worked as a landscape painter and portraitist, he wrote still lifes. In his work was influenced by impressionism, his paintings are black and white modelirovok subtlety and restraint in the color palette.

Terlemezian works are in many museum and private collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, National Gallery of Armenia in Yerevan, and others.
