ZAKLIKOVSKAYA Sofia Lyudvigovna

Painter, graphic artist, master of decorative and applied arts

Sofia Zaklikovskaya studied in Pskov State Free Art Studios in 1919–1921 (?). In 1921–1926 she studied in the Higher State Artistic and Technical Workshops (VKhUTEMAS) – the Higher Art Technical Institute (VKhUTEIN) in Petrograd (Leningrad); her teachers were M. V. Matyushin, A. E. Karev, and K. S. Petrov-Vodkin. In 1925s–1930s she attended the studio of P. N. Filonov. When she was working on her diploma — painting In Pskov Province, she followed Filonov’s advices. Zaklikovskaya was married to sculptor I. I. Suvorov, who was the Filonov’s student.

Since 1927 Zaklikovskaya participated in many exhibitions. She was a member and active participant of the exhibitions of the society Masters of Analytic Art (MAI, 1927–1932). In 1932–1933 she together with other members of the society (T. N. Glebova and A. I. Poret) created illustrations for Finnish epos Kalevala for the publishing house Academia. Her works were shown at the exhibition The modern Leningrad art groups (1928–1929), the First Public Exhibition of Fine Arts (1930) in Leningrad and others.

During the World War II, Zaklikovskaya was evacuated to Komsomolsk-on-Amur. There she painted plafonds of the House of Soviets. After returning she lived in Leningrad, worked in Leningrad Department of Fine Arts (LenIZO).

Works by Sofia Zaklikovskaya are in many museum collections, including the State Russian Museum.
