studied in a natural faculty of St. Petersburg University (1885-1889), involved in student unrest, was removed (did not finish the course). Systematic arts education is not received. Since 1904 worked as a controller of the Mint in St. Petersburg. In those same years, approached the circle of artists and writers: SAEsenin, O. E. Brazeau, IG Myasoyedov, SF Kolesnikov , BI Anisfeld. In 1910-1911, together with Myasoyedov traveled to Italy. Visited France, Germany, England, in Paris, met with Konstantin Korovin.

lived in St. Petersburg (Petrograd, Leningrad), in 1916-1920 - Staraya Russa. He painted landscapes, portraits, still lifes, passed through passion Impressionism (1910-20-e), in the mid 1920's - early 1930's was a close association "Circle of Artists".

Participated in exhibitions of "Community of Artists" (1921), Petrograd artists of all directions (1923), acquisitions of the State Commission for acquisition of works of fine arts (1928, 1930), 1 st Public Exhibition of Fine Arts (1930 ), "Artists of the RSFSR XV years" in Petrograd (Leningrad) and Moscow. Since 1932 - Member of the USSR Union of Artists.

From 1920 he taught at the art studio at the Tauride street, in 1933-1934 - at the preparatory courses at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, architecture and sculpture.

killed at the front in Feodosia.

artistic heritage of the artist is relatively small - much of it destroyed during the siege of Leningrad. Works are in several museum collections, including the State Russian Museum, the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg and others.
