Biographical details are scarce. He studied at the East-Siberian art workshops (1925-1928) at the IL Kopylova.

lived in Leningrad. He worked as a landscape painter, genre painter, portraitist, creating paintings on historical subjects. Participated in the 1-st All-Siberian exhibition of painting, sculpture, graphics and architecture (1927, mobile: Krasnoyarsk - Novosibirsk - Tomsk), All-Union Exhibition in Moscow (1946, 1947, 1950, 1951, 1955). Held a solo exhibition in Leningrad (1959).

LOSSH Member (since 1932) and in 1948-1951 served as chairman LSSH. For his efforts he was awarded the title of Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1956), People's Artist of the RSFSR (1975).

Retrospective exhibitions Nikolaeva passed in Leningrad - St. Petersburg (1986, 1999).

works are in several museum collections, including the State Russian Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery and others.
