From a family of musician-органиста; spent his childhood in Druskininkai. Initial music education has received in primary school and the orchestra of the Prince М. Огинского in plungė (1889-1893). He studied at the Warsaw music Institute (1894-1899) Т. Бжезицкого and А. Сыгетинского, of the Leipzig Conservatoire (1901-1902) К. Рейнеке and С. Ядассона. The author of symphonic poems "In the forest" (1900-1901), "the Sea" (1907), Overture "kęstutis" (1902), a cantata for choir and symphonic orchestra De profundis (1899), a string Quartet, works for choir a'capella on texts of the Psalms, many piano pieces; recorded over 60 литовских folk songs

he received his Artistic education in a private school of drawing Я. Каузика in Warsaw (1902-1905) and the Warsaw school of art (1905), where he studied under the guidance К. Стабровского.

he Lived in Vilna (1908), where he led the choir. Spent a lot of time in Druskininkai, Palanga, St. Petersburg. He travelled through the Crimea, the Caucasus, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic. In 1907 he was one of the organizers of the Lithuanian art society.

Wrote a fantastic scenery and composition, where the symbolism was combined with elements of folk and decorative-прикладного art, creating designs for stained glass Windows; was fascinated by the philosophy of cosmism and the idea of synthesis of music and painting. Many worked in the techniques of pastel, tempera, was engaged in engraving on glass. He drew a series of paintings "the Creation" (1904-1906), "signs of the zodiac", "Winter", "Spring" (all —1907), "Semeiskie crosses" (1909).

he was a circle, grouped around the former masters Association "World of art"; was friends with М. В. Добужинским, А. Н. Бенуа, К. А. Сомовым with 1910 — a member of the renewed "World of art".
