Painter, graphic artist

from family deacon. He studied at the seminary. At the same time attending evening classes in drawing school A. Shanin. He studied at the IAH - Higher Art School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at IAH (1891-1898), from 1894 - in Repin's studio. During the years of study was awarded a small (1893) and two large (1893, 1894) silver medals. In 1894, he received the title of the artist's 2 nd degree for his film "bereavement" in 1898 for the painting "the fabric" and "Gains (Sailing Boat)" was awarded the title of the artist.

lived in St. Petersburg in 1919 - in Petrozavodsk. Since 1911, regularly traveled to the studies in Karelia, in Olonets province. He worked as a landscape painter, he painted on the theme of Soviet life, revolutionary history, the military theme. In the 1900's - 1910-x performed a series of murals in the churches.

Participated in the Spring exhibition in the halls of IAH (1910), the international exhibitions in Munich (1901) and St. Louis (France, 1904), XI AChRs exhibition "Art of the masses" (1929) Held solo exhibition in Petrozavodsk (1938).

He taught at the Petrozavodsk School of Arts Workshop (1919-1921, since 1920 - the school principal), Russian Pedagogical School, Petrozavodsk (1920-30-e), the art studio at the Central House of Culture in Petrozavodsk (1936 -- 1941). He studied folk crafts.

For his creative and pedagogical work was awarded the rank of Honored Artist of the Karelian ASSR (1939), People's Artist of the Karelian ASSR (1944).

lot of artist's paintings were destroyed in a fire at his house, so to have survived only a part of the heritage Popova.

works are in several museum collections, a large collection of works by Popova has Karelian State Regional Museum in Petrozavodsk.
