Suevi Jacques-Francois-Joseph, nicknamed de Fontaine (Swebach Jacques-Francois-Joseph de Fontàine)

born in the family of the painter, sculptor, engraver and mineralogist François-Louis Svebaha. Art education has received under the guidance of his father and M. Duplessis. Since 1783 participated in exhibitions of the Salon under the pseudonym "Fontaine". In the 1790's carried out a series of drawings devoted to the history of the French Revolution (album of 112 sheets) and the French military campaigns since the Consulate and the Empire (album of 52 battle scenes and a hundred portraits of the marshals), who were transferred to an engraving by Svebahom, P-M. Berthod and M. Duplessis.

He painted portraits, landscapes, genre and battle songs. In 1810, for the painting "The transition of Napoleon I on the Danube July 5, 1792" was awarded a large medal of the Salon.

in 1802-1813 was the "first painter" Sevres porcelain manufactory. Compiled "pictorial encyclopaedia Svebaha" (Paris, 1807), engraving which has long served as models for the decoration of porcelain.

In 1815, invited by Count DA Guryev lead scenic workshop Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg. Sketches was painting on porcelain. He had several pupils, among whom the most fame achieved by his son B.-E. Suevi and B. STOLETOV.

Collaborated with the publishing A. Plouchard for which the two series of 12 lithographs depicting war scenes, carts and horses. In 1820 he lived in Moscow, taught students in a workshop for painting on porcelain in the estate of Prince Nikolai Yusupov Arkhangelsk. Attended the estate of Count Alexei Orlov and FS Mosolov, on orders that created "portraits" of thoroughbred horses.

In 1820, after the completion of the contract left Russia and returned to Paris.

Svebaha works are in many museum collections, including the Louvre, the Museum of Ceramics at Sevres, the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, State Hermitage Museum.
