Born into a wealthy merchant family, studied at the Moscow High School. After the revolution, lived in Petrograd. In 1918-1920 worked as an educator of children's home, which was situated in a Buddhist temple in the Old Village. In 1920 joined the Institute of History of Art, where for ten years showed slides of lectures. Listened to lectures on the theory and history of art of all kinds of art-thought of the time, including NN Punina, ND Flittner, EK Liphart, N. ; Radlov, MV Dobroklonskogo, V.Ya. Kurbatov, and others. In 1923 he married at TN Krechetova, which later became an art critic, researcher at the State Russian Museum.
In early 1920 began to study painting and drawing, attending evening drawing classes at VHUTEMAS in Petrograd, where he studied with Radlov. Created a number of non-objective compositions. In 1927 he became acquainted with Malevich later acquaintance grew into friendship. In 1930-1935 appealed to the technique of dry needles and linocuts.
From 1930 until his death he worked at the Steel Rolling wire-rope factory them. Molotov: first, a laboratory, then a senior engineer and chief of metallographic laboratory. During the Great Patriotic War he was evacuated from the factory in the Urals. Some of his works were given Krechetova, who remained in besieged Leningrad, for temporary storage in the State Russian Museum.

Works Lapin extremely rare. He is intensely involved in art only in the 1920 - 1930; in the 1940's only occasionally turned to painting and drawing, but in recent decades, far left any creative activities, believing that he lacks the ability to put their plans. In addition, a significant portion of the already small creative heritage of the artist disappeared during the siege of Leningrad, many works are known only for archival photographs.
In his early works - mid 1920 (the earliest dates from 1922) markedly influence of cubism and futurism. Most of the works 1927 - mid 1940's, created under the influence of the late works of Malevich. Before its printed graphics, the 1930 artist puts the problem of extensive replication, it was rather interesting technical possibilities of dry needles and linocuts, so much of his experiences in the engraving there is a single copy.
The artist belongs to the newly discovered names of Russian art, recently introduced into scientific circulation. This contributed greatly to the exhibition "In terms of Malevich. Companions, disciples and followers in Russia 1920-1950-x ", held in 2000 in the State Russian Museum. In 2006 in Galeev-Gallery in Moscow, an exhibition of linocut artist.
Works Lapina are in State Russian Museum, as well as several private collections (some had been sold at the auction of Russian art of the twentieth century, Sotheby `s in 1989), among them a work of art, ND Lobanov-Rostovsky and K. Gmurzhinskoy.
