BOIM Solomon Samsonovich

Boim studied at Kharkov Art College (1918). In 1918 he was called up for military service in the Red Army; he participated in battles near Orel, worked as painter in armoured train brigade. After demobilization he continued education at the Higher Art Technical Institute (VKhUTEIN) — the Higher State Artistic and Technical Workshops (VKhUTEMAS) in Moscow (1922–1929) under N. N. Kupreyanov and P. I. Lvov.

Boim lived in Moscow, in 1944–1945 — in Tallinn. He worked in the field of easel and book graphic art. He was engaged in watercolor, lithography and monotypy. He performed graphic series Village (1929), Leningrad during the blockade (1942–1947), Fleet in the Great Patriotic War (1940s), Nakhimov’s Cadets (1950–1951), Volga — Don (1953–1955), Leningrad (1956), Moscow (1957–1964), Baltika (1963) and others. He collaborated with the State Publishing House of Children’s Literature Detgiz.

Boim exposed his works at the 1st exhibition of the graphic art in Moscow (1926), International exhibition Art of the Book in Paris and Lyon, jubilee exhibition Artists of the RSFSR for 15 years in Leningrad and Moscow (1932–1934), and exhibition of the Soviet Art in Konigsberg (1932) and others.

Boim taught at the studio under All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions (VTsSPS, 1938–1941), Moscow State Institute of Fine Arts (1940–1941), Moscow State College of Fine Arts in memory of the revolt of 1905 (1946–1952).

During the Great Patriotic War, Boim worked as artist for the newspaper Krasny Baltiysky Flot (“Red Baltic Fleet”, 1942); in 1943–1945 he was chief artist of the Political Administration of the Baltic Fleet.
