CHUMAKOV Fedor Petrovich

in 1834-1840 was a disciple of St. Petersburg Theater School, both attended drawing classes IAH. In 1840, dismissed from school for admission to the IAH. Consisted volnoprihodyaschim student in the class of historical painting in PV Basin, the advice of K. Briullov. He received a pension from the Society for the Promotion of Artists. In 1847 and 1849 for "portraits from life the old man" was awarded the large and small silver medals. In 1850 he graduated from the course with the title of the artist's paintings of historical and portrait "with the right to the rank of class XIV».

In the same year at his own expense went for treatment and further studies abroad. For some time he lived in Italy. Upon his return to St. Petersburg, presented at academic painting exhibition 1852 "Bacchante" and "Girl of Albano, near Rome, for which he was awarded the title of Academician.

From 1853 he lived mainly in France, in 1859 finally settled in Paris. Exhibited works at the Paris Salon regularly sent paintings to exhibitions in the halls of IAH in St. Petersburg. In 1865 the film "Torturing Savior" was bought by the French government, some works purchased by the President of IAH Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna during a visit to the Paris studio of the artist, in 1866 painting "The Savior and the rich man" bought by Emperor Alexander II and presented to the academic museum.

In 1868 Chumakov filed a petition to the Board of IAH on obtaining the title of professor "has already begun for now" "The Crucifixion of the Savior", but the title was not awarded. For a large number of works depicting female heads, has been nicknamed the "Russian Dreams».

Chumak - one of the greatest masters of art of the academic middle - second half of the XIX century. He painted historical and biblical scenes, genre scenes.
