YURLOV Valery Ivanovich

1932 (Alma-Ata, according to other sources - Moscow)

painter, graphic artist, book artist, sculptor, collage and objects.

drawing interest very early, first mentor was his father, a passionate lover of art. During the war, as a boy, was invited to attend the Almaty School of Art, where he taught evacuated professor of the Kiev Academy of Fine Arts P. Cherkassky, endorsing dessins YURLOVA.

In 1955 he graduated from the faculty of artists books Moscow Polygraphic Institute, where his teachers were Telingater S., Zakharov, I. Chekmazov, P. Miturich, A. Goncharov, B. Favorski. In his student years, carried away graphics, ceramics, Japanese woodcuts. He did drawings for the publishing house "Detgiz. After some time the Institute has collaborated with "Detgiz", but another job did not work for a publishing house and the relationship broke down. Yurlov in search of work began to collaborate with magazines and soon left for the Caucasus, where he settled in the town Gulripshi, from time to time navedyvayas to Moscow for new orders.

Living in the Caucasus, not just involved in ethnographic expeditions. In 1960 joined the USSR Union of Journalists and the Association of artists designers. His works were eagerly taken in publishing houses.

Since 1956 began to develop its own alphabet of geometric shapes (triangle, circle, drop), made the first experiments to explore the relationship a pair of forms - the direction, no one before him had studied. In the 1960's continued to develop the idea of interaction between pairs of forms in painting, drawing, collages, objects. In the 1970's to the theme of a pair of forms added to the idea of "communication" - understanding of electrical systems, "life" of which depends on the button "on-off". Later "electric" theme finds expression in the artist's installations and facilities.

In the 1970's worked closely with the Museum of Oriental Art, has prepared a large exhibition devoted to Mongolia (there, as well as in Buryatia, he traveled for several months).

in 1974-1975 was composed of members of the maritime expedition of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, the route which ran from Vladivostok to the coast of Guinea.

In the early 1980's Yurlov studied philosophy N. Cusa and Russian theology.

twice tried to join the Union of Artists (1964, 1984), but both times unsuccessfully.

YURLOVA first solo exhibition was held at the State Tretyakov Gallery in 1992.

In mid-1990 moved to the United States.

The artist lives and works in New York City and Moscow.
