studied at the Moscow Art College of memory 1905 (1954-1959). In 1962-1966 worked as a restorer of icons and frescoes in Novgorod and Moscow.

In 1960 Shelkovskiy became friends with the future leaders of the Moscow Conceptualism and Sots Art. In 1963, first exhibited his works in the cafe "Blue Bird" in Moscow. In 1969 in the Central House of Arts (Moscow) has passed his first personal exhibition.

In 1976 he emigrated to France. In Paris Shelkovskiy became increasingly turn to social themes. His works were exhibited at the Venice Biennale and May Salon in Paris (1977), at "dissidents" in Lodi (Italy) and at the cabin "new reality" in Paris (1978), at the cabin "Young sculpture in Paris (1979, 1983 ), as well as at numerous exhibitions in France, Germany, Italy, etc.

... In sculpture, I was not interested in an array of stone, plaster, bronze, but rather outline, scheme, and transparency. I like to paint in the air, the view sees the line, contour, and only the imagination creates a common, ie the object itself. On the one hand, this method images of objects, shapes, can come close to realism about domestic properties, on the other - it makes it possible to turn things into a symbol, image, equal to almost road sign, a short and comprehensible to all, as laconic formula ... In painting, I used points, dotted line instead of a continuous line, because it seemed to me that such a discontinuity activates the eye, gives him the opportunity to wander in search of the whole, to organize it yourself.
