From the family of a serviceman. He studied at Moscow art College of memory 1905 года (graduated in 1929), the Studio К. П. Чемко I Д. Н. Кардовского (1920-е), Vhuteine — Institute of proletarian fine arts — the Leningrad Institute of painting, sculpture and architecture (1929-1936, with a break) А. Д. Гончарова, Н. Э. Радлова, В. А. Фаворского, К. С. Петрова-Водкина.

he Lived in Moscow. Wrote thematic paintings. Author of painting works: "Victory. Berlin. 9 мая 1945 года" (1947), "After the demonstration (They saw Stalin)" (1949), "Red corner" (1964), "Weekend", "Morning at the farm. At the office" (both — 1967), "Four generations" (1968), "the Rehearsal club" (1972), "Trinity (Extramural)" (1975) and other; graphic series "Soviet troops in Berlin" (1945).

In the mid 1950-х repeatedly went to the virgin lands; worked in the state farm "virgin" area Ruzaevsky Kokchetav region of Kazakhstan. In 1954-1961 created a series of paintings "People of virgin lands", including: "Protracted explanation" (1954), "Boyfriends", "Girlfriends", "tractor Tent", "the Settlers (From tent to new home)", "current", "Letters came", "the First morning. Hospitality", "Lights in the steppe", "the Newlyweds-целинники" (all — 1959), "Enthusiasts" (1961).

From 1936 — participant of exhibitions (exhibition of diploma works of graduates of the Russian Academy of arts in Leningrad). Participated in exhibitions: Moscow artists during the great Patriotic war (1942), "Travel sketches of Moscow artists (in places of historical battles of the red Army)" (1944), all-Union art exhibitions (1946, 1949, 1950, 1955), "30 лет of the Soviet armed forces" (1948), books and book graphics Detgiz (1951), a "40 лет of the Soviet armed forces" (1958) in Moscow and others. Participated in many exhibitions of Soviet art abroad, including in Warsaw (1946), Helsinki (1950), Bulgaria and Romania (1956, mobile); the world exhibition in Brussels (1958).

Member MSCH — MOSH; in 1961-1963 —, the Chairman of the Union; one of the organizers of the legendary exhibition "the New reality. 30-летию MOSKH" in the Manege (1962), where for the first time visibly were made by the artists-нонконформисты (Э. М. Белютин, Ю. И. Соостер, В. Б. Янкилевский, Б. И. Жутовский); accompanied by exposure Н. С. Хрущева.

Since 1937 преподавал at the Moscow Institute of fine arts (MGHI them. В. И. Сурикова), Professor (from 1950), head of the Department of painting.
